Why does my eBay offer not match what the buyer pays?

On UK private-seller listings the buyer sees the Buyer Protection Fee added on top of your price. A buyer's own offer already includes that fee, but when you send or counter an offer you enter the item price only — so eBay adds the BPF on top and the buyer's total ends up higher than the number you typed.

Does the Buyer Protection Fee reduce what the seller receives?

Accepted Answer

No. The BPF is paid by the buyer on top of the item price, so as the seller you receive the item price you offered (before any separate seller selling fees). The fee only changes the total the buyer sees.
